Barrow Award Winners Revealed

At a recent event in Clifton, Barrow Gurney presented the end of season awards to those nominated by captains and the committee.

Frank Forge won the First Team Player of the season due to his 25 wickets (the highest in our division) despite missing a few games due to injury. Skipper Ed Holdaway felt that Frank’s contribution with the ball, taking a wicket every 16 balls he bowled, was outstanding in a season dominated by batters. Ed himself was a candidate scoring over 700 runs and taking 15 wickets to boot, but he maintained the recent tradition of captain’s not giving themselves the award! Mark Brown who scored 665 runs, and Guy Fisher (329 runs and 21 wickets) were unlucky to miss out.

Will Thompson’s 527 runs at an average of almost 60 made him the stand out candidate for the 2nd Team Player of the season. Scoring 2 hundreds and 2 half centuries, Will made a big contribution to the team. Linden Alway was certainly in contention with 17 wickets and 336 runs in the league.

James Plowman won the Norman Moody Cup awarded to the player who has really made a significant impact or improvement in the season. New to the club, he quickly found his bowling boots in the First XI taking 12 wickets and was considered unlucky not to have taken more.

The Club Person of the year was Dave Milton who does so much behind the scenes to keep the pavilion tidy, helping with supplying the bar, and doing those odd jobs which are only noticed if they are not done!
