Whirlwind Ware & Flawless Fisher Set Up Winning Score

After a washout on Saturday, Barrow Gurney were pleased to be able to play Cleeve 2s on Sunday managing to dodge the showers.

Captain Colin Fletcher described Guy Fisher’s unbeaten 56 as “flawless”

Cleeve won the toss and elected to bowl whereupon Barrow’s opening pair of Guy Fisher and Frank Forge (28) quickly put on a partnership of 67. Barrow compiled runs at a steady rate with Jonny Sykes contributing 29, before Guy Fisher retired unbeaten on a flawless 56, whilst brother Mark also added a useful 28.

Cleeve threatened with a couple of quick wickets but then Kian Ware’s brief, but eventful, innings thrilled the spectators, if not the Cleeve bowling attack. Launching the ball to all parts, Ware departed after 12 balls having made 43 runs and led Barrow to the excellent total of 243- 8.

Cleeve’s reply started positively against Barrow’s attack of Leo Brace and Conor Jones, but Leo (2/38) eventually got the reward for some good pacey in swinging deliveries, Meanwhile Charlie Grubb (59) was batting well and in need of support at the other end. None of his partners got going and once he fell for 59, Cleeve struggled, being dismissed for 132. The accuracy of Barrow’s Mark Fisher (2/18), Oscar Livesey (2/11) and Adam Brace (2/7) proved too much for the opposition’s lower order.

After 3 weeks of friendlies since cricket has been allowed this summer, Barrow’s 3 teams are looking forward to the Bristol & District and N Somerset mini-leagues which take place throughout August.
