Chilcompton vs Barrow Gurney 1’s
Barrow Gurney CC 1st XI’s trip to face Chilcompton ended in frustration as the weather had the final say, with the match abandoned after Barrow had posted a competitive total.
Having won the toss at the Chilcompton Sports Ground, Chilcompton Sports CC 1st XI elected to field first, a decision that initially looked well-judged as they kept things tight early on. However, a steady partnership began to shift momentum in favour of Barrow Gurney CC 1st XI.
Barrow Gurney’s innings was anchored by a composed 48 from wicketkeeper Jordan Allen, who struck seven boundaries in a patient 75-ball stay. He was well supported by Mark Brown (30), and the pair guided their side past the 100 mark after recovering from the early loss of Kieran Owen for 16.
Chilcompton’s bowlers shared the workload effectively, with Bradley Hancock the pick of the attack, claiming 2 for 45 from his eight overs. James Purchase bowled with excellent control, taking 1 for 22 and delivering three maidens, while Tim Fussell and Michael Gooderham also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Despite regular wickets, Barrow Gurney maintained a solid scoring rate, finishing on 161 for 5 from their 36 overs. Phil Milton’s unbeaten 22 late in the innings ensured a competitive total, on a low and slow pitch
Unfortunately, before Chilcompton could begin their run chase, the weather intervened and the match was abandoned. Both sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, taking 8 and 9 points respectively from a game that still had plenty left in it.
