Bristol Lions 1st XI clinched a narrow two wicket victory over Barrow Gurney 1st XI in an evenly fought contest on Saturday 14 June.
After winning the toss and opting to field, Bristol Lions applied early pressure but were met with resistance from Barrow opener Guy Fisher, who compiled a solid 40 from 60 balls. Ben Hodges added a fluent 27, but Barrow’s innings was derailed by regular wickets, slipping from 77-2 to 136-9 before a late cameo of 17 not out from Mark Fisher helped push the total to a competitive 164 all out in 38.2 overs.
Kavin Panagoda led the Lions’ bowling attack with 3-27, while Samitha Silva Sandaradura and Pahan Brito chipped in with two wickets apiece.
In reply, Bristol Lions made a quick start, reaching 50 inside seven overs. However, their innings mirrored Barrow’s as wickets fell in clusters. Shravan Kumar Bokkala was the standout with a dynamic 45 off 23 balls, including three sixes, while Torington Fernando steadied the middle order with a composed 35.
Guy Fisher and Mark Fisher both struck twice to bring Barrow back into the contest, reducing the Lions to 153-8. But the visitors held their nerve, with Ayaash Marikar’s 10* off 42 balls and Malith Hanwellage Don’s 5* seeing them home in the 35th over.
Meanwhile Barrow Gurney 2nd XI put in a spirited performance to outplay Tamil Nadu Bristol 1st XI by 34 runs in a high scoring encounter.
Opting to field after winning the toss, Tamil Nadu Bristol might have regretted their decision as Barrow Gurney piled on 235/7 in their 40 overs. The innings was built around a superb 151 run second-wicket partnership between Will Thompson (79 off 71, 11 fours, 1 six) and Phil Milton (72 off 64, 8 fours, 4 sixes). Despite losing opener Ben Skuse for a duck early, the duo counterattacked to great effect. Contributions down the order, particularly from Linden Alway (23), helped push the total past the 230 mark.
In reply, Tamil Nadu Bristol were bowled out for 201 in 35.3 overs. After a shaky start at 35/3, middle-order contributions from Ranjith Kumar Kallapalli (31), Rajkumar Veeramani (20), and later a late surge from Karthik Murugesan (31* off 27) gave them hope. Regular wickets ensured Barrow stayed ahead, with Matt Edgar (3/36) and Leo Brace (3/60) doing the bulk of the damage.
