A dramatic batting collapse, doomed Barrow Gurney First XI to a defeat against Bristol 3s on Saturday,
Batting first on a beautiful day at Hobbs Lane, Jason Cryans (53) and Kieran Owen (36) put on 94 for the first wicket and when Mark Brown added another half century, with the score at 183-3, they were aiming at well over 250. Instead, mayhem ensued as the last 7 wickets fell for 26 runs in the face of some spirited bowling by George Herring (3/35) and Daniel Lambert (5/50).

209 looked to be a small total to defend on the quick scoring Hobbs Lane, and so it proved as Graham Herring played a flawless innings of 129 to steer his team to the brink of victory by 7 wickets.
The highlight of Barrow Gurney’s weekend though was a maiden century by Sam Mitchell for the Second XI on an artificial pitch at Bradley Stoke. Chasing 220-2, Mitchell blasted 116 not out with 9 sixes and 8 fours to take the team to a much-needed win by 5 wickets. He was ably supported by Peter Rooney (31) and Paul Gard (21) in reaching the total.
