Barrow Teams Struggling As Season Enters Home Stretch

Carsons & Mangotsfield edged a thrilling contest at Hobbs Lane, chasing down Barrow Gurney’s total with just three balls to spare to secure a narrow two-wicket victory.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, Barrow Gurney posted a competitive 210-8 from their allotted 40 overs. The innings was anchored by a composed 65 from skipper Ed Holdaway, who struck 10 fours and 2 sixes in a 71-ball knock. He shared a crucial 100-run third-wicket stand with Mark Brown (44 off 57 balls – before pulling his calf), which steadied the ship after an early wobble at 42-2.
 
Despite a late wobble that saw wickets tumble quickly, Mark Fisher’s unbeaten 21 off just 11 balls gave Barrow some momentum heading into the break. Isaac Buckingham (2-35) and Jack Woodland (2-18) were the pick of the visiting bowlers, with good support from Sam Brayley and Sam Wilson, who also chipped in with two wickets apiece.
In reply, Carsons & Mangotsfield’s chase got off to a shaky start as they slumped to 55-4, with Barrow’s seamers applying early pressure. But George Farmer (60 off 69) rebuilt the innings, before an explosive unbeaten 61 from Isaac Buckingham turned the tide.
 
Buckingham’s innings, which included 8 fours and a six, came at a crucial time, and he found an able partner in Jack Woodland (22), helping push the visitors toward the target. Barrow kept chipping away with wicket Mark Fisher (2-27) and Ben Hodges (2-32) were especially effective but couldn’t quite close out the game as Carsons reached 211-8 in 39.3 overs with Carsons getting 70 off the last 7 overs.
 
 
Bristol Malayalee 1st XI produced a confident run chase to secure a 5-wicket victory over Barrow Gurney 2nd XI.
Having won the toss, Bristol Malayalee skipper Manu Vasupanicker elected to field first on a warm afternoon. Barrow Gurney’s innings was anchored by an impressive knock from opener Ellie Holdaway, who carried her bat with a gritty 51 (116 balls), while captain Linden Alway chipped in with a brisk 30 off 30. Despite the solid platform, the visitors stuttered through the middle and lower order, eventually finishing on 161/9 from their allotted 40 overs.
Bristol Malayalee’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Sineesh Syril, who claimed 3/20 in his 7 overs. Shyju Francis also played a key role, taking 2/41, while four other bowlers each chipped in with a wicket. Notably, Asif Hussain contributed in the field with two sharp run-outs.
In reply, Bristol Malayalee’s chase got off to a solid start. Sineesh Syril continued his strong all-round performance with a fluent 44 from 43 balls, laying the foundation. A couple of quick wickets briefly raised Barrow Gurney’s hopes, with Paul Gard (3/37) leading their bowling effort. But Anurag Mohandas had other ideas, launching a counterattack with an unbeaten 50 off just 34 balls, including 3 sixes, to guide the hosts home with 10.5 overs to spare.
 
 
Bristol Kannada Cricket Club delivered a dominant all-round performance to thump Barrow Gurney CC by 113 runs.
After being sent in to bat, Bristol Kannada posted a commanding 194-7 from their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a blistering 60 from Balaji Srinivas, whose 31-ball knock featured 9 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Ramachandra Pattar (29 off 20) and Harsha Maiya (19 off 13).
 
Despite some economical spells from Ed Holdaway (2-25) and Mark Fisher (2-31), Barrow Gurney struggled to contain the scoring.
In response, Barrow Gurney crumbled under scoreboard pressure, folding for just 81 in 10.5 overs. Only Nick Heal (18) and Ed Holdaway (14) reached double digits as wickets fell in quick succession. Harsha Maiya was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-32 in his four overs. Ramachandra Pattar chipped in with two wickets in a single over, while Avinash A and Rajshankar Bachenahalli also got among the scalps.
 
Bristol Kannada’s fielding was sharp, highlighted by a run out from Avinash A and multiple catches spread across the team.
