Barrow Gather To Commemorate A Dear Friend

On Friday, Barrow Gurney Cricket Club gathered formally to treasure the memory, and celebrate the contribution to the club, of Rod Reeves who passed away last year. At the time many wonderful tributes were paid by players and friends and were featured on this website, but we longed for the day when there would be a permanent reminder of him at the Hobbs Lane ground.

Over the winter, Adam Brace and Pete Holdaway, constructed a new seating area at what was formerly known as the Fox & Goose End of the ground. The new area has been named as Rod’s Viewpoint, not just because it was a place he would often stand when watching the play, but because Rod just loved sharing his views on cricket and cricketers, and a wide variety of other subjects besides. He had so many stories and his presence has been sorely missed by all who have visited this season.

A plaque to commemorate the naming of the new area was unveiled by Rosemary, Rod’s dear wife, and a brief address was given by Barrow Chairman, Pete Holdaway. The many in attendance were able to enjoy raising a glass to Rod whilst sharing their own memories, whilst enjoying a barbecue on a lovely evening. The attendance itself showed how well-liked and how much he helped and supported over the years. We certainly miss him!
