Barrow AGM Announced For Sunday 8th November

Being Chairman of Barrow Gurney Cricket Club is not just about getting the best seat to watch the cricket as Pete Holdaway will tell you. There are many things that are required to run a successful club, those who look after the finances, the ground, the pavilion, organising the fixtures, the refreshments, and, of course, the teams.

This year has been a good one for the club, the 1st team has consolidated its position in a higher division, the 2nd team won promotion, the Sunday team brought new players back into cricket and encouraged younger players to step up to 40 over cricket. Meanwhile the Under 15s had their best year for some time whilst the younger age groups showed real signs of promise.

In addition the club has been making plans for significant ground improvements. A net to protect the car park has been erected, whilst plans are in place to install a new net facility with another artificial practice facility adjacent to the square. The committee is also looking at possibilities to provide a female changing room which could double as an umpires’ room for 1st team games.

Barrow Gurney holds its Annual General Meeting on Sunday 8th November at 7.30pm at Barrow Gurney Village Hall. This is an opportunity for all members to have their say, to vote for the new committee (including the captains and vice-captains of the teams) and to show their support for the work being done to improve both the facilities available to, and skills of, those who want to play cricket at Barrow and also the enjoyment of those who come to watch.

Small clubs such as Barrow rely on the active involvement of its members and we hope that you will join us on Sunday to continue the wonderful work carried out by so many people over the years.
