2nds Do The Double Over Thornbury

Barrow Gurney 2nds turned up at Hobbs Lane hoping that they could repeat the previous weeks success of a double victory over Frampton Cotterell with a double over Thornbury. Mark Gracey lost his first toss in 5 games and the Thornbury skipper decided that they would make the most of the new ball and put Barrow in to bat.

Bernie and Mark Gracey opened the batting but Mark fell quickly to the impressive Bird. Bernie played some good strokes supported by Roger Finnimore who scored another solid score of 30 before also being bowled by Bird, but not before putting on a 53 partnership with Bernie before she was caught for 18. Jordan Allen came in and carried on his solid season scoring a comfortable 37 with Ellie Holdaway scoring 8, then came the Dan Jones and Oscar Livesey show….

Oscar started very slowing with 20 dot balls before he exploded into action with a flourish of boundaries but eventually he fell trying to hit one too many being bowled for 35. Dan at the other end was scoring freely with a strike rate of almost 100 before being bowled for 29. Liam Moore and Frank Forge were both dismissed looking for quick runs and Matt Owen and Mike Lilley saw Barrow reach a score of 194/9 off 40 overs.

After Tea, Matt Owen opened the bowling and managed to pick up the wicket of the Thornbury opener for 24. Liam Moore came on and bowled well picking up 3 wickets for only 26 runs off 9 overs, 2 bowled and one a low catch by Roger Finnimore. Mike Lilley again bowled 10 overs, picking up one wicket for 27 runs.

Ellie Holdaway picked up one wicket with a sharp c&b off off her first spell and then picked up a wicket in a brief second spell. Dan Jones was unlucky not to pick up a wicket and bowled tightly keeping the Thornbury score down. Oscar Livesey finished off the Barrow win with a wicket in his only over leaving Thornbury

151/9 off 40 overs.

Not quite maximum points for the game, but a double over Thornbury and 28 points.
