Sunday Success A Long Time Coming For Friendly Team

On a sunny yet gusty Sunday, Barrow arrived facing an Axbridge side whom they put into bat. James Riley taking over the reins of captaincy from the absent Mark Forge.

Opening up with an interesting combination of Guy Fisher and Oscar Livesey, the Sunday team strived to make early inroads. Wickets came quickly with each opener picking up a wicket and Mark Fisher also picking up a caught and bowled. Leo brace added a 4th wicket and at this point Axbridge had only amassed 75 runs. Cue a large stand between two Axbridge batsmen, Ben Perverill (100*) and Dean Packham (60*) who stuck in and played sensibly.

Axbridge ended on 234-4. Overall a very good bowling performance from Barrow with help from youngsters Leo and Cameron Bullock who caused the Axbridge batsmen many an issue.

After tea. Barrow set about the score at hand. After losing Mark Fisher and Ed Jones early, Guy Fisher and Sameera both ended up retiring with classy 50s, crashing boundaries with ease. This put Barrow firmly in the driver’s seat. Then Barrow began to falter. Will Kerswell going LBW and Nick Fisher departing without scoring. James Riley however managed to hold things together with 32 not out before also retiring

With the score on 210 with 10 overs still to go, Rod Reeves, who scored a Gower-esque 38, and was ably supported by Leo Brace, took Barrow home with 4 overs to spare.

Sadly with another opposition team cancelling, the Sunday team have only one game left this season to build on their first victory.
