One run decided the local T20 derby at Flax Bourton on Wednesday as Barrow Gurney staged a heroic batting effort in fading light.
Batting first Flax Bourton made 112 -9 in their 20 overs. Frank Forge was pick of the bowlers with 3/10, whilst captain Oscar Livesey chipped in with 2/13 and then made an inspired bowling change to allow the rarely-bowled Jordan Allen to clean up the innings with 2 wicket for one run in his two overs.
In reply James Riley made 25 before retiring, but the middle order did not fire until Jordan Allen came in to make 26 before also retiring. With overs running out Oscar himself strode to the crease to play his usual eclectic innings, before blossoming to hit the ball to all parts. With 3 needed off the last ball, only two could be scored and Flax won by the narrowest of margins.
Attempts are being made to arrange a re-match, but meanwhile a good evening was rounded off with a barbecue.
