Award Winners Announced At Grand Club Night

65 players, supporters and friends of Barrow Gurney Cricket Club attended the Grand Club Night last Friday. After enjoying the buffet, the captains and coaches reviewed the highlights of the cricketing summer leading into the highlight of the evening – the presentation of this year’s awards.

James Riley took the First Team Player of the Year Award, having taken 25 wickets (ave 13.40) and made 89 lower order runs (ave 12.71) in league games.

Second Team Player of the Year was Jonny Sykes for his 313 runs (ave 34.78) scored in the league at a strike rate of well over 100. Jonny also took 1 wicket (ave 55.00) and took 7 keeping dismissals (6ct, 1St) in the latter half of the season.

Frank Forge was named Most Improved Player of the Year. In all cricket for Barrow he made 321 runs (ave 20.06) and took 26 wickets (ave 17.88).

Young Player of the Year went to fellow off-spinner Oscar Livesey who took 42 wickets (ave 17.10) and scored 174 runs (ave 17.40) in all cricket this year.

The Clubman of the Year award, which recognises the contribution made to the club off and on the field, went to Mark Forge the website editor and Sunday captain.

The Under 13 Awards this year were merged into a special award for every single player as coach Pete Holdaway was so proud of all the players who battled hard to achieve such close results for such a young team compared to the opposition that they faced.

Finally, special awards were made to 4 stalwarts of the club who have served it faithfully on and off the field for many years: Geoff Saunders, Barrow President Brian Mayled, Dick Pillinger and Pete Shiner (absent)
