Barrow Gurney Cricket Club’s annual dinner brought together players, families, supporters and players of yesteryear for a splendid meal at Barrow Gurney Village Hall. Wonderfully organised by Jane Holdaway, this has long been a highlight of the Club’s social life.
After the meal there were the formal presentations of the senior division awards. Nick Moore was awarded the 1st Team Player of the Year in recognition of the runs he scored during a solid performance by the whole team in the year following promotion. The Second Team award went to Jordan Allen, Vice-Captain, and key run scorer for the promotion-winning team.
The Double Wicket shield was presented to Paul Glazzard and James Halladay who won the competition in September as reported elsewhere on this website.
The Young Player of the Year was awarded to Bernie Forge, 2nd Team wicket keeper/batsman who also played in many Sunday games and Under 15 games and had the second highest aggregate runs in the club after James Mitchell who must surely have been a candidate for the “Newcomer of the Year” if there had been such an award. Most Improved Player was Kieran Owen who was the Under 15 captain this year and who featured for all 3 senior teams through a fantastic season with the ball, as well as contributing some key innings with the bat.
Finally the “Clubman of the Year” Award went to Mick Hardy who delivered a moving speech on his many years as a player and recalled many amusing memories of former players, his triumphs and disasters over his many years in the 1st team.
