During the off-season, Barrow Gurney’s committee have been making plans for several improvements to the scenic Hobbs Lane ground.
Planning permission has been obtained to install a new net facility alongside the pavilion, together with an artificial strip adjacent to the main square, which will significantly enhance practice facilities at the club. Work is to begin shortly, weather permitting, so that it is available for use at the start of the outdoor season.
Already complete is the work to install netting for the car park. No longer will there be the competition to arrive early enough to get the protection of trees from a well hit shot. Meanwhile the entrance to the ground has been widened to make it easier to access.
Other plans which are at an advanced stage include the extension of the pavilion to enable a female changing room for our growing number of girls and ladies wanting to play in senior and junior teams.
Already Barrow’s Chairman and Groundsman, Pete Holdaway, has been preparing the square and the ground is looking a picture. It is now only 7 weeks before the pre-season friendlies start – roll on summer!
