Thirteen Barrow Gurney golfers arrived at Thornbury Golf Club to be greeted by glorious weather, setting the stage for a fiercely contested Stableford competition.
Before heading out, a few players (MO and FF – you know who you are!) put on a masterclass in how not to putt during the warm-up, but soon enough, we were ready to tackle the Par 3 course for the morning session.
Par 3 Competition – Top Scores

Phil Febrey continued his red-hot streak (perhaps it’s time for a cricket comeback?), putting in an impressive performance to take the Par 3 crown.
With the morning round complete, we refueled with a classic ham, egg, and chips, accompanied by a couple of well-earned pints, before heading out for the main course challenge.
The afternoon saw some big performances, with Ali, Kieron, and Gardy putting the pressure on Phil at the top. Nick finally found a fairway (at the right time) to claim the Longest Drive, while Matt O took a highly debatable win in the Nearest to the Pin contest—only to miss the putt and end up further away!

Special Awards

Despite a strong charge from the chasing pack, Phil’s solid front nine (22 points) proved enough to hold on for the win. Back in the clubhouse, he celebrated with a few lime and sodas (an unconventional champion’s choice, but we’ll allow it).

With the golf clubs packed away, it’s back to a sport where we have to hit a moving ball… until we return to the fairways in September!
