End Of An Era As Barrow Gurney CC Enters Its 150th Year

Barrow Gurney’s members met at its 150th AGM in November to thank its Chairman, Pete Holdaway, for over a decade of leading the club. Pete was presented with a print of Jack Russell’s painting of Cheltenham College’s ground, which he said was his second most favourite ground, after the Hobbs Lane ground which he has lovingly cared for over the years. Pete will be continuing to be the Head Groundsman but has handed the baton of leading the club onto Phil Milton a long-standing Barrow player and captain of the First XI for many years.

Pete Holdaway who has led the club for over a decade.

During Pete’s tenure, the club has gone from strength to strength, attracting new players, starting a Saturday Second XI, and overseen new developments at the ground to improve player and spectator experience, but with the club about to enter into a year of celebration of 150 years since it was founded by a group of local people, he felt that it was time for a new direction. Phil will be supported by the new committee, including Vice-Chair Josh Hall, whilst the 2023 Captaincy team were re-elected for the coming year.
