Barrow Gurney CC held their annual awards evening last week in the unusual surroundings of a city centre canteen with the opportunity to eat and drink and catch up with what our colleagues had been doing since the season ended.
Jason Cryans was presented with the First Team Player of the Year award by Connor Jones
Of course the focus was the annual awards presentation. Jason Cryans took away the First Team Player of the Year award. Jason scored 417 runs for the Firsts at an average of 37.91, opening the batting and regularly getting the team off to a good start. With a top score of 89 and 3 other half centuries, captain Connor Jones said that his batting form coupled with the fact that he had to take over as captain for the middle of the season due to injuries, meant that he was the winner of the shield for this year.
Josh Hall, Clubman of the Year, with Phil Milton
Josh Hall won the Clubman of the Year award, for his tireless work helping at the ground and his help in upgrading the facilities to improve player experience. Presenting the award, vice-chair, Phil Milton, said what an asset Josh had been to the club and thanked him and all those who support the club behind the scenes.

Presenting the award for the breakthrough player for the season, club secretary Mark Forge said there were a number of contenders. The club had recruited players new to cricket and Cam Hunter and Jack McGhee had made promising progress. Also joining the club were players such as Linden Alway and Matt Edgard who were returning to the game after a break and both had made a big impact on the club with some strong performances. The award though was presented to Charlotte Huntley in her first full season with the club and who had to battle ill health throughout but nevertheless made some important contributions with the ball taking 12 wickets in all including 5 for 26 v Lansdown.
Second Team Captain Peter Rooney announces the Player of the Year (Sam Mitchell)
Sam Mitchell won the Second XI Player of the Year, and although Sam could not be present, captain Peter Rooney recalled some stand out performances including his maiden century at Bradley Stoke. Sam scored 326 runs at an average of 54.33 in the Seconds before going on to make his first half century in the First XI.
