The Prime Minister’s roadmap has opened the way, we hope, for a full cricket season at Hobbs Lane after it was announced that recreational (grass roots) sport can begin from 29 March.
Barrow Gurney CC, having not been able to have the usual pre-season training indoors due to the Covid restrictions, will be wasting no time in getting going with outdoor training scheduled to start at the ground on Tuesday 30th March from 6pm until dusk and thereafter there will be training each Tuesday evening throughout the season. These sessions are free for members of the club, whilst new or prospective players are welcome to enjoy a couple of complimentary sessions. From 13 April the bar will be open for outside service on Tuesday evenings as well as on match days.
The Bristol & District League have recently announced a full schedule of fixtures, with the First XI (in Division 5) starting their campaign away at Chilcompton, whilst the Seconds (Division 13) are at home to Coalpit Heath 3s. The first league fixtures take place on Saturday 1 May. As previously reported the club has friendly fixtures on the 2 weekends before, as well as full season’s programme of Sunday League fixtures and midweek T20 friendlies.
We are still awaiting full details of the ECB guidelines for play and practice.
The club welcomes players of all standards for its senior sides, age 14+ male or female. Junior coaching can also be arranged on request.
The favourable weather has allowed some early preparation of the ground, which is widely acknowledged as one of the best kept and most scenic in the area. Over recent years the club has invested in new nets and a female changing room. Our small village club is fortunate to have facilities worthy of much larger cricket clubs.
