2016 First Team Captain, and lifelong Barrow Gurney boy, Phil Milton tells the BGCC website about his cricketing life and memories.

What is your first cricketing memory?

Playing my first game for Barrow Gurney aged 12 at the old Imperial Ground in front of the old pavilion.

Who encouraged you to play cricket?

Paul Mizen and Geoff Saunders my first junior coaches

Who was your first cricket hero and why?

(Sir) Ian Botham for the way he played the game

Can you name-drop any top-class players you have played with or against?

Geraint Jones against Clevedon in the B&D cup

Where is your favourite place to play or watch cricket?

Barrow Gurney (obviously)

Which England cricket match do you most remember and why?

Brian Lara’s 365 against England and Darren Gough’s Ashes hat trick.

Which county do you support?

Gloucestershire

What other teams have you played for?

No one else!

How did you come to join Barrow Gurney Cricket Club?

Through a friend ([Former Barrow Captain] Geoff Warren’s son Chris)

What do you think is special about the club?

It is welcoming, inclusive, and we play the game in the right spirit.

What was the most memorable performance you have seen by a Barrow team or another Barrow player?

Numerous performances by Mick Hardy with bat and ball, (James) Riley at Claverham last year (4/31), Tim Patch’s  hat trick on tour, Jon Hood taking 6 for not many, Woodpeckers hitting us for nearly 300, Bristol Knights scoring 200 odd in a 20:20

What was your most memorable performance for Barrow?

I made 90 odd v New Ash Green last year  but have still not hit that elusive 100!

What is the funniest moment you have witnessed on a cricket field?

Any time Ali (Hood) tries to run a 3 and any time somebody is done by the spin on the ball in the field.

Who is your current favourite player and why?

Michael Klinger – he is carrying a poor Gloucestershire team.

What is your Barrow Gurney prediction for 2017?

Some good wins, a couple of bad losses and lots of chat about if only x, y and z were available we’d be top of the league!
